"Last month, for the first time in my life, I chose to lease a car from a large, reputable dealership. In addition to the usual insurance, I purchased "extra protection" as I am supposed to return the leased automobile in pristine condition. Grandchildren in the backseat with ice cream cones brought that into question. Then, the dealership offered me "Gap Insurance" to cover the difference between what "regular insurance" would pay and what the dealership would expect should the car be stolen or suffer catastrophic damage.
