Kids of all ages will be intrigued by the historical facts and beautifully illustrated story of Ruth Wakefield's 1937 creation which grew in popularity throughout Whitman, the whole state of Massachusetts, the rest of the country and the entire world. It makes an attention grabbing read-aloud for classes in women's history, civics and problem solving. Also, additional book "For the People Against the Tide", a democratic woman's memories of her 10 years in the Massachusetts legislature. Written to inspire people to get vote and get involved in politics to protect our democracy. Kathleen Teahan, a former Massachusetts English teacher and state representative, self-published in 2017 and donates $1 from the sale of each book to fight world hunger.
